Hi I am using the standard Wordpress import/export tool to try to copy my media library to another WP instance. I export selecting only the media. I download the XML file. I import it to the new WP instance - assign the users etc.
I hit run, it does import the images, but it is randomly creating duplicates. Like a lot of duplicates, maybe 90% of images are duplicated. Sometimes multiple duplicates, as in 2 or 3 additional copies.
These aren't different size versions, these are identical versions, same filesize, same dimensions, same names but with filename-1, i.e. adding -1, -2, -3 on the end of the file name.
I've looked through the XML I can't see duplicate data in there. I don't know why it's creating these duplicates. I don't know why it's not duplicating all of them, just most of them. And why some are being duplicated several times.
I've disabled all plugins except the Wordpress importer.
The exporting WP version is 5.7.2, the importing version is 6.7.2 I don't know if this would have an impact.
Any idea why this might be happening? Thanks for your assistance.
