Custom post type and google visibility

admin2025-01-07  3

I have a WordPress site that uses custom post types. However, the custom post types are not being recognized by google. It's like the custom post type is a box full of our original content that google can't see inside of it seems. What can I do to change this?

  • How are you registering your post type? – Howdy_McGee Commented Apr 8, 2015 at 14:37
  • If you have an XML site map. Make sure your custom post type is part of it, and then tell google to index your sitemap again. – gdaniel Commented Apr 8, 2015 at 14:41
  • I do have the custom post type selected in the xml sitemap generator. – Steve Commented Apr 8, 2015 at 14:56

I would recommend using WordPress SEO by Yoast. It has a "Titles & Metas" section which allows you to define the SEO title and descriptions for custom post type articles, archives, and allows you to no-index an entire post type if wanted.

The problem is in your sitemap, I searched for an element in your sitemap and googles returns me the exact page, http://lmgtfy.com/?q=gooutlocal+crush (Sitemap URL where it is referenced http://gooutlocal.com/sitemap-pt-bar-2015-02.xml). This looks like you haven't regenerated your sitemap after adding new content.
